Your space on the Internet is called your domain and web browsers use your domain name to point users towards your website. This domain is located on Internet servers that provide the memory space needed for your content, which is usually “hosted” by private companies like GoDaddy, NameCheap or other hosting services. Here are some of the top domain hosts, one of which is probably yours.

Top Domain Hosts

To manage your website, your support team needs access to your domain. Some users may not know where their domain is hosted, but it’s likely that your domain is hosted on one of the five largest domain hosts listed below.

  1. GoDaddy: 76.6 million domains
  2. Namecheap: 16.5 million domains
  3. Tucows: 11.1 million domains
  4. Google: 7.9 million domains
  5. Network Solutions: 6.4 million domains

Finding Your Domain Host

But how do I know which one? A good first step is to check your billing records, as most hosting services charge a monthly or periodic fee for hosting services.

If you don’t have billing records available, another step is to look up your website on WHOIS. This site provides not only information about the Registrar, which is the company that registered your domain name, but also information on your hosting service in the field for “Name Servers.”

The Name Server shows where your website is located, which will generally include a specific location, followed by the domain host’s location. So, for example, sites hosted by GoDaddy.com could have Name Servers like cns1.godaddy.co or cns2.godaddy.com.

Sharing your domain privately

In some cases, you can share your domain with approved partners without having to share sign-in information like usernames and passwords.

GoDaddy,NameCheap and Google have options to share access to your domain without sharing password information. Usually, all it takes is an email address

Sharing GoDaddy Sites

With GoDaddy being far-and-away the world’s leading domain registrar, it’s likely that your domain is also registered and hosted there. Through its “Delegate Access” feature, it’s easy to share access to your GoDaddy domain. Here’s what to do:

  1. After signing into GoDaddy, find the Delegate Access page here.
  2. From there, select “Invite to Access” from the “People who can access my account” option. It will ask for the name and email of the people you are inviting to access the site.
  3. It will also ask what level of access you want to provide, which can include “Domains Only,” “Products & Domains,” or “Products, Domains & Purchase,” the highest level of access. Usually, Products, Domains & Purchase is the option you will want to select when sharing your domain with Gifted Owl Web Technologies.
  4. Finally, selecting the “Invite” button will send an email sharing access to your domain.

NameCheap

Like GoDaddy domains, sharing a NameCheap domain name is actually quite simple.

  1. The hosting site’s dashboard includes a list of domain names. Select the domain to which you want to share access and select “Manage” on the right.
  2. From there, you can edit some of the settings of the domain, which includes an option for “Sharing & Transfer,” where you will find the option to add a new “Manager” for the account.
  3. After adding an email account for the new manager, you will have the option of choosing the level of access, including “Give Manager Full Access”, which will give domain access to any of your chosen partners.

Google Domains

Google Domains also allows users to easily share access to their domain through the dashboard at http://domains.google.com.

  1. Sign into Google Domains and select the one you wish to share access.
  2. Open the “Menu” for the domain and select “Registration Settings.”
  3. Click “Add User” under Domain Permissions. Add the email for the user you want to add.

Network Solutions

  1. Log into Network Solutions with admin credentials.
  2. In the upper right next to your account name, click the arrow and in the dropdown select Accounts & Users.
