Adding a slideshow to your post can be an effective way to get more photos into one blog post without overwhelming the reader. It is helpful in posts such as event recaps or where you might have less word count but more photos to display.

Adding The Slideshow ::

To add a slide show to a particular post, follow these steps:

  • Create a new Post or Page.
  • Go to Add Media. This is where you will add your media to make sure your images are attached to this particular post.
  • Once they have uploaded to the correct size you’d like displayed, follow these directions:
    • Click on the left side bar “Slideshows” (Make sure the images you want in the slideshow are highlighted)
    • Slideshow settings will open up. This is where you will set your slideshow settings.

Slideshow Settings

Attached Images Slideshow ::

The “attachments” slideshow type displays images attached to the current page/post/post type being viewed.

The settings for this slideshow type are:

  • Number of Images :: The number of attached images to display (maximum is 20)
  • Use Thumbnails For Pagination :: Use thumbnails for pagination instead of the default pagination bar.

Slides Slideshow ::

The “slides” slideshow type displays items from the “slide” custom post type. Any content added to the WYSIWYG editor for a slide will be output for that slide.

Selecting Photos

The settings for this slideshow type are:

  • Number of Slides :: The number of slides to display.
  • Slide Pages :: Optionally display slides from only specific slide pages.
  • Use Thumbnails For Pagination :: Use thumbnails for pagination instead of the default pagination bar.

Once you have finished setting the slideshow settings for your preference, click Insert Slideshow. This is an example of what code will be inserted.

Save and preview your post. Your slideshow should automatically format into the blog post and can be seen in Preview Mode.

Any photos that are “attached” to your blog post, will automatically be formatted into the slideshow.
