A New Recipe Plugin to Make Your Dishes Shine
Do your contributors have great recipes to share? Are your readers looking for family-friendly and party-ready meal options? Does your audience need the perfect treat to bring in for the class party? We’ve got you covered with a new recipe plugin deployed network-wide. This plugin replaces the old Recipe Card plugin.
NOTE: RECIPE CARD plugin is still active. Please use the ULTIMATE RECIPE plugin for all new recipes. We will have instructions shortly on how to migrate your old recipes created in RECIPE CARD to WP ULTIMATE RECIPE.
WP Ultimate Recipe Plugin
This plugin is simple to use and creates beautifully organized and formatted recipes, perfect for publishing, sharing, and printing. This plugin has a few key features that make it a great solution. Your recipes will automatically be formatted with metadata that makes your recipes shine in Google Recipe Search, without requiring any input from you. It’s also responsive and ensures your recipe posts look great on all devices. You can also make some easy customizations as both the publisher and user (for example, adjusting ingredient amounts when changing serving sizes). Let’s get started with some simple steps.
Find “Recipes” in Your Left-Hand Navigation on Your WP Dashboard
From here, click “add new” just like you would to create a new post.
Give Your Recipe Post a Title
You may want to use the same title as your actual recipe title. See steps below.
Add Some Post Content
You can add content just like you would in a post. Perhaps you have a story to tell, important information to share about the recipe or related content you’d like to discuss. This is a great opportunity to link to related content as well!
As you can see in the highlighted areas, just like in blog posts, you can choose categories and add tags to organize this content.
You also have the option to change the title of the recipe. As the highlighted and italicized area indicates, you can leave the Title field blank to use the post title, otherwise, simple change the title to your preferred option.
Likewise, you have the option to add a featured image. If this field on the recipe card is left blank, the plugin will pull your featured image into the recipe card. Otherwise, add an alternative image here to be included on the card.
Add Your Recipe
Include a recipe description as well as serving sizes, prep time, etc. (PS Google likes to see this info on recipes!)
You are also given the option “Cuisines” if you’d like to organize recipes you publish in this manner. You can also just leave this blank.
Ingredients and Instructions
The plugin makes it very easy to add ingredients including quantities and any necessary notes.
You can also add stepwise recipe execution. With the option to add images as you go along to further illustrate the recipe procedure.
Don’t forget to add a featured image!
Additional Information
The plugin also allows you to add any final recipe notes and even provides a section to add a video of the recipe if you choose.
Shortcodes
Add the [recipe] shortcode to the recipe content where you want the recipe to appear.
Add the [recipe-video] shortcode to the recipe content where you want the video to appear.
This is a VERY simple example of the recipe card published on your site
Settings
Finally, you may wish to customize a few features in the settings menu.
Click settings > Template Editor
Here, you can customize various aspects of the recipe card such as link and button colors to align with your branding.
It’s also convenient to toggle over to the featured image section and toggle on “alternate image” in order to define an alternate image for the recipe (see above).
Enjoy this new plugin and let the tech team know if you have any questions.
